Kids just want to have fun…a great way to get your cardio then take kid’s yoga for the relaxation! Zumba mixes fun Latin rhythms and songs with dance steps that improve the cardiovascular system, help to release pent up energy, and help the brain work in tandem with the body. Asana Alphabet’s teacher Daniela, a rock star of a dancer leads this amazing class. See the photo for all the info or check out http://www.kidsfunhouse.com
The glands are the guardians of our health. In case you missed last night’s workshop on balancing your glandular system with Kundalini Yoga that we gave at 3rd Street Yoga Studio, you can still do the kriya we did in warm-up on your own by watching this link:
This is not like popping a pill! For best results, practice on a regular basis. Enjoy!
For those of you who can’t make it to today’s Asana Alphabet workshop on teaching yoga to babies and toddlers, here’s a bit of a snipet for you. (By the way, it is being held again next Friday, March 16th, 2012 in Miami: www.synergyyogamiami.org) Babies respond to music and it is an incredible learning tool. Using lots of songs in your class will help to create a fun, positive and enriching lesson plan.
Many nursery schools use common songs that nearly everyone in the U.S. know such as “Row your Boat’ and “London Bridges”, but you can also pull on traditional yoga mantras for inspiration. One I find particularly useful for a baby class that includes mothers (sometimes dads and babysitters too….but still the majority of parents in “baby and me” classes that we lead have the mother as the attendant).
In the words of Yogi Bhajan, the Adi Shakti mantra “will carve out of you a woman. Woman needs her own Shakti, not anybody else will do it. When a woman chants the Kundalini Bhakti mantra, God clears the way. This is not a religion, it is a reality. Woman is not born to suffer, and woman needs her own power.”
Here are the words:
ADI SHAKTI, ADI SHAKTI, ADI SHAKTI, NAMO NAMO,
SARAB SHAKTI, SARAB SHAKTI, SARAB SHAKTI, NAMO NAMO,
PRITHUM BHAGAWATI, PRITHUM BHAGAWATI, PRITHUM BHAGAWATI,
KUNDALINI, MATA SHAKTI, MATA SHAKTI, NAMO, NAMO.
The mantra has been used traditionally amongst Indian women in celebration of motherhood and for protection of the family. Here is a youtube sample of one way to chant it…you can also purchase downloads at SpiritVoyage.com. Other baby yoga songs that are helpful can be found on our music site: www.AsanaAlphabet.Bandcamp.com
